As the fight against HIV intensifies, stakeholders should devise ways of preventing mother to child transmission of HIV, an HIV counsellor has said.

According to Charles Okolong, acting counselling coordinator at The AIDS Support Organisation in Soroti, 30 to 40% of children in Soroti born to HIV positive parents end up becoming HIV positive themselves.

Christine Areo Aruo, a counselor at TASO Soroti, says emphasising on ways of preventing mother to child transmission will reduce the overall prevalence rate in the country.

The health ministry recently declared a policy aimed at ensuring no more children are born with HIV by 2015.
