Most Health centers in Teso subregion in Eastern Uganda have been hit by in adequate supply of essential drugs for children and preganant women.
According to the joint report by 21 civil society organisations on maternal and child health;titled, “Together we can end preventable death” dated 21st.July 2011,drug supples are meant to be delivered once every two months but some health units spend more than three months without deliveries.
The report recommends that in a struglle to prevent children dying of preventable diseases;providing adegquate essential medicines in health centres should be considered first.
“Some of the health centres also delay to report their stock outs in their health cntres which has created abig gap.It therefore calls for a joint effort of monitoring the supply and efficient use of drugs”,the report which has been circulated to all the local governments in Teso says in part.
It adds that there are a number of death cases caused by diseases like malaria and were not recorded and yet if the essential medicines were provided on time,a number of these deaths could have been preveted from happening.ends.
