Sports ground hosts free HIV testing

A total of 120 people were on Saturday (1 October, 2011) tested for HIV in Soroti Sports ground, Eastern Uganda.

The counselor at the AIDS Information Centre (AIC), Joseph Olupot, said: “A majority of those who have tested are adults, mothers who have brought their children and couples. We are encouraging couples to test for HIV together because discordancy is very common.”

Olupot said AIC awards certificates to couples who go and test together. Among the people tested were children, men, women and the minister in charge of Teso, Christine Hellen Amongin Aporu.

Olupot also revealed that AIC, which is part of The AIDS Support Organisation (TASO), works in partnership with Right To Play, a scheme that trains coaches and teachers in sport and play curriculum, based on healthy child development, healthy lifestyle behaviors and HIV.
