The government of Uganda has commissioned the construction of a cancer clinic and training institute worth over 3 million US dollars.

The project will be handled by the Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, together with the Uganda Cancer Institute and it is expected to be complete in three years.

In a message delivered by the Vice President, Edward Sekandi, President Museveni acknowledged the need to check the increasing cases of cancer in the country.

The Health Minister, Christine Ondoa, pledged to lobby for funding for the cancer institute and promised a timely supply of cancer medicine from the National Medical Stores.

Out of every 100,000 people in the country, 200 are at risk of suffering from cancer.
