Poor roads and infrastructure in Ruteete sub county, Uganda putting mothers at risk

Medical workers at Ruteete Health C enter III in Kabarole district, Western Uganda have decried the poor state of infrastructure at the center, which they say is making their work difficult.

Febroan Kembabazi, the enrolled midwife at Ruteete health center, says the road leading to the health facility is in appalling state and has pot holes, making it difficult for pregnant mothers to reach the health center for treatment.

“Our road is very poor, full of pot holes, and being a rainy season it is becoming more impassable. Last week a pregnant mother who was coming to the health center on a boda boda fell off the motorcycle, which put her at risk of abortion” Kembabazi said.

“Apart from the road, the ward is also a misery. It is leaking and the lights are not functioning we use torches and lanterns which cannot work well.”

Kembabazi is calling upon district and sub county officials to intervene and find ways of solving the problems.

Baguma Holymisdus Spear, the sub county chairman, said he will work with the district to have the problems worked on.

“We shall cooperate with the district officials to see that these concerns are addressed in the nearest future” Baguma said.
