Wallace Mawire, a Key Correspondent (KC) from Zimbabwe , has been honored for his journalism work against gender based violence.
Wallace was one of the nominees for outstanding media personality on activism against gender based violence under the Ndichirimupenyu (While l am still alive) 2011 awards, conducted by the Women Film Makers of Zimbabwe (WFOZ) in collaboration with the UN Women Gender Support Programme.
“I am very honoured to be nominated as a runner up in this category and this will give me inspiration to put more effort in writing on gender based issues,” says Mawire.
The awards were presented in Harare under the International Images Film Festival for Women commemorations with support from organizations like DFID and the European Union (EU) this week (November 28, 2011)
The awards honour people who have played a significant role in the fight against gender based violence. The Ndichirimupenyu Awards are now in their sixth year. This year, the awards ceremony were held in November during the 10th anniversary of the International Images Film Festival for Women (IIFF).
Mawire also urged other writers to use their pens to bring change into their communities.
