Dr Willim Ojilong, the in-charge at the HIV/Aids department at Ngora Fredcarr Hospital has revealed that HIV positive clients will soon begin to receive their medicine from health centres nearer to them in their sub-counties instead of getting it at Ngora Fredcarr Hospital in the district.
“It will be easier for the clients to get medicine in the health units nearer to them rather than coming to the main hospital” said Dr Ojilong.
Ojilong said ARVs and trained staff will be available in Kapir, Kobwin, Mukura health centre III and Ngora health centre IV to handle and administer the medication. He said this program is supported by the Ministry of Health and Baylor Uganda, an NGO working on HIV/AIDS in the country.
“There will be no need for people getting worried, we have the ARVs on stock now and professionally trained personnel will be at your service” he added.
Recently, Senior Nursing Officer at the Ngora Fredcarr Hospital, Dr. Otim Eletu, advised positive clients to disclose their HIV status, follow their medication and improve their diet to improve their health.
Meanwhile, a disease outbreak looms and threatens Serere town because of poor hygiene and minimal latrine coverage.
Councillor Martha Asingei from Akusi ward said the town is now smelly, dirty and not conducive to stay in. “The whole town council is littered with human faeces and has a smell that you cannot contain,” she said.
Asingei advised people living in the town to dig latrines and maintain both personal and general hygiene by keeping the town clean to prevent any disease outbreak. She called on local leaders to sensitize people on hygiene issues.
