Acowa Health Centre III in Amuria district, Uganda has acquired a CD4 machine worth over 40 million Ugandan shillings as a donation from The AIDS Support Organisation (TASO).

While handing over the machine, Rose Nalubega, centre manager of TASO Soroti, said the CD4 machine works for eight hours if charged well. The machine will help detect the level of HIV infection in one’s blood and what, if any, medication they should be given.

Patients will now be able to receive CD4 count services at Acowa health facility free of charge, Nalubega added.

Annet Abonyo, the in charge Acowa health centre III, expressed gratitude saying the health centre had been incapacitated in providing such a service to people with HIV and AIDS in Amuria Acowa.

With close to 9,000 people living with HIV and AIDS in Acowa many had been moved to St. Claire health center in Ohocha to access CD4 count services.
