A new 120 million shilling ($50,000 USD) ward will be built at Kibiito Health Center IV in the next financial year, according to Dr Richard Mugahi the Kabarole District Health Officer.

Dr Mugahi made the announcement at the District Budget Conference, held at Tooro Resort in East Division Fort Portal Municipality yesterday (22 December, 2011) in response to criticism from Amina Kaija the a district councilor in Kabarole district, who described the lack of wards at Kibiito Health Center IV as ‘alarming’.

Kaija described how the health centre’s only ward is shared by males, females and children including those waiting for surgical, and worst of all dead bodies.

The councillor added that the health center has no mortuary and so when a patient dies they leave the body on the bed creating fears among other patients. Amina added that she has talked about the congestion in many conferences and seminars and to the health department but nothing had been done.

John Manume, a district councilor in Bunyangabu county, asked the district officials to put all the planned activities for the financial year 2012 into action so that people can benefit. He noted that in many cases plans are made but the intended money is diverted to unplanned activities
